Doug Hammer, PGA - Director of Instruction
Doug Hammer is a PGA professional and has experience with golfers of all levels from all over the world. His client list consists of beginners to top ranked amateurs and professional players. His philosophy is simple—there is no perfect swing for everyone. Doug is a student of the game and studies every technique to be able to help every golfer, no matter what they may be working on or learning. In addition to helping grow the game of golf through teaching, Doug also manages the Callaway Authorized Performance Center at Troon North, one of only nine such facilities in the country. It is important to have equipment that fits your game—if you are playing equipment that is not correct for you, you may be able to improve your scores by improving the clubs you play. Doug is an experienced clubfitter and can help you with any equipment questions you may have or can make recommendations for the best clubs to fit your style of play.

Doug Hammer is a Class A member of the Southwest Section of the PGA of America. Since 1999, Doug has worked for Troon Golf in various capacities and has been a PGA member since 2001. Originally from a small community in southeast Iowa, Doug came to Arizona in 1997 to enter the golf business and attend the Golf Academy of America. Doug began with Troon Golf at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa as an assistant golf
professional and began teaching with Mike and Sandy LaBauve. In 2001, he became the head  golf  professional at The Westin  Mission  Hills Resort in Rancho Mirage, CA and in 2002, the Director of Instruction at Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa in Galena, IL where Doug began working with Troon Golf Director of Education and Top 100 teacher, Tim Mahoney. Doug spent four years as the Director of Instruction at Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ, prior to coming to Troon North in December of 2007. He also has international experience working as Director of Instruction for the David Duval Golf Academy in Miyazaki, Japan, and the Banyan Tree Club and Spa in Seoul, South Korea.

In addition to his work at Troon North, Doug writes golf articles for Golf Tips Magazine, Today's Golfer (UK), www.Oldernotdead.com, and www.Sportsnetwork.com.  Doug has also been featured in Par Golf (Japan), Asian Golf Monthly (Singapore), and The Club Magazine (S. Korea).

Guy Shaw, British PGA - Teaching Professional
 
Guy has been playing golf since the age of 13 and upon leaving school he embarked on what would turn out to be a lifelong career in the golf business.
His formative years were spent in several private golf clubs in England whilst studying for his British PGA qualification. During his 20’s he spent several years playing on the MasterCard/Challenge Tour and Euro Tour.
 
His playing career highlights are finishing runner up in a MasterCard Challenge Tour event, Leicestershire PGA Matchplay Champion 1996, Leicestershire PGA Assistants Strokeplay Champion 2003, winner of The Midland PGA Assistants Order of Merit 1994 and Leicestershire PGA County Open Champion 2002 & 2003 – in 2003 shooting a course record of 61 in the second round; a record which still stands to this day.
 
Guy’s understanding of the fundamentals of the golf swing is exceptional and having spent over 20 years teaching golf, his style of teaching is certainly not a ‘one size fits all’ approach. He understands that every golf student has different requirements and abilities and this is what drives his teaching methods. Players of all levels benefit from his straightforward approach and unique understanding of the game of golf, its principles, its equipment and techniques.

Ryan Mahoney, PGA - Callaway Fitting Specialist and Certified Assistant Instructor
 
Ryan is a PGA Professional and worked at Troon North Golf Club for the past nine years. During his tenure he has had the opportunity to teach alongside such renowned instructors as Tim Mahoney, Steve Dahlby, and Doug Hammer. While at Troon North, Ryan has provided instruction to hundreds of guest from all around world and has also taught dozens of clinics to various golfers of all abilities.  Ryan is also in charge of the Troon North Junior Academy. The Academy provides juniors of all levels, the opportunity to learn the game in exciting and new ways, without compromising the most important factor, fun! 

Ryan’s philosophy is simple and easy to comprehend, he does not teach one method but emphasizes on creating a swing that will provide consistency. Ryan feels that focusing on progressive learning and having fun is the key to success in golf.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Ryan currently presides as the Lead Fitting Specialist in the Callaway Performance Center. The CPC, as it is more commonly known, allows guest to be fit utilizing the same cutting edge fitting equipment, which is used on many of today’s stars on the PGA, LPGA, and European Tours.

Ryan Graduated from Eckerd College in Saint Petersburg, Florida with a Bachelor Degree in Business Management and in Finance. Ryan played college golf at Eckerd, where he earned numerous accolades including; Second Team all Sunshine State Conference his freshman year and posted countless top twenty finishes throughout his four year career at Eckerd.
